Jardin Majorelle is Marrakech's most photographed garden — a compact, cobalt-blue oasis created by the painter Jacques Majorelle and later rescued by Yves Saint Laurent. For expats it's a calm, easy escape from the medina and a reliable outing with visitors.
What you're looking at
Laid out from the 1920s by Majorelle, the garden centres on his intense-blue villa (now the Berber Museum) among bamboo, cacti, and palms from around the world. Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé bought and restored it in 1980. Next door is the separate Yves Saint Laurent Museum (mYSLm), which opened in 2017.
Visiting as a resident
It's in the Gueliz/Ville Nouvelle area, a short taxi ride from the medina. It's small — an hour or so — so it's best paired with the YSL Museum next door. Go right at opening; it gets crowded and the light is best early.
