Nature's Valley is the Garden Route at its quietest — a tiny village and long, forest-backed beach tucked inside a national park. For expats it's the antidote to the busier coastal towns: no strip of shops, just sand, lagoon, and indigenous forest.
What you're looking at
The beach runs for about 1.5 km where the Groot River lagoon meets the sea, all within the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park. It's the finishing point of the famous five-day Otter Trail, and the surrounding fynbos and forest are part of the Cape Floral Region. The lagoon is calm and good for easy swimming and paddling, while the sea can be rougher — swim in the patrolled areas in season.
Visiting as a resident
It's just off the N2 between Plettenberg Bay and Storms River, an easy day trip or a peaceful overnight. There's a SANParks rest camp plus self-catering houses, but very limited shops and dining, so bring supplies. Look out for baboons and bushbuck around the village.
