Santos is one of the few north-facing beaches in South Africa, which makes its water noticeably calmer and warmer than most Western Cape beaches. It's a wide, clean town beach in Mossel Bay with lifeguards in season, gentle swimming, and paddleboarding, backed by a promenade, cafés, and the town itself. It's relaxed rather than a headline sight — a good local beach for everyday use.
Visiting as a resident
Mossel Bay sits on the N2 about 380 km east of Cape Town, at the western end of the Garden Route; Santos Beach is right in town with easy parking. A car is by far the easiest way to get here and to explore the wider coast.
